The short answer
Poor cooling can result from settings, restricted airflow, blocked filters, unusual room heat load or a system fault. Check the operating mode and user-accessible items described in the exact model manual. Persistent poor cooling, icing or fault indications require professional diagnosis; they do not prove the system simply needs more refrigerant.

Safe checks before booking a repair
Follow the manufacturer instructions. Daikin’s general troubleshooting guidance highlights temperature and mode settings, air quantity/direction, clean filters and objects blocking airflow. Other models may behave differently, so use the correct manual.
- Check that cooling mode is selected rather than fan-only operation.
- Check the requested temperature and any timers or central-control restrictions.
- Keep normal indoor airflow paths clear of furniture and obstructions.
- Inspect or clean only user-serviceable filters, following the manual and its shutdown instructions.
Record the symptom, not a guessed cause
Write down when the problem began, which rooms are affected and whether the outdoor unit appears to operate from a safe viewing position. Photograph any displayed error code without opening equipment. Keep the full indoor/outdoor model references and service history available. A fan running does not establish that the refrigeration circuit is operating normally.
Stop and use a professional
Do not open electrical panels, attach gauges, add refrigerant, bypass controls or repeatedly reset protective faults. If there is smoke, burning smell, damaged wiring or another immediate hazard, stop using the equipment where safe and follow appropriate emergency guidance. Persistent icing, leakage, noise or failed cooling needs a qualified assessment.
What to include in a repair request
Give the postcode, equipment make/model, symptoms, error code, how many units are affected, safe access arrangements and the operational impact. A technician can then assess the required visit and qualification. Refrigerant work on systems containing F gas must be performed by appropriately qualified personnel.
Related questions
Does poor cooling mean I need a refrigerant top-up?
No. Settings, airflow and several equipment faults can cause similar symptoms. A qualified professional must diagnose the issue and address any identified leakage rather than adding refrigerant based on a symptom alone.
Can I clean the filters myself?
Only if the exact model instructions describe the filters as user-serviceable and you can follow the access and shutdown instructions safely. Otherwise arrange professional servicing.
